Radona Devereaux for Kennewick hasn't added a story.
About Me:
I am a stay at home mother, who became involved in activism after the 2018 elections. I have five children, and a loving husband. I am a Christian, and a constitutional conservative. I believe that Jesus died for my sins, and the sins of every individual on the planet. I am also a student, currently pursuing my B.A. in government with emphasis in legal studies, focused on constitutional and political law. I spent the first five weeks of this year's legislative session in Olympia, meeting with legislators, and persuing the introduction of legislation I wrote, to repeal I-1639, and I-594. I Succeeded with getting my legislation introduced, in the form of House Bill 2103. While it did not make it passed the cutoff, I am hopeful it will return next session. I support the Second Amendment, better access to local mental health care, and putting an end to the homelessness in our city. I do not agree with socialized medicine, giving sanctuary to those who would do harm to our city's residents, or any infringements upon a law abiding citizen's right to bear arms as described in our state and federal Constitution. I am very concerned with the recent increase of crime in our city, and as your council woman, I intend to propose ordinances, and budget adjustments to better fund our law enforcement, so that they are able to do their jobs efficiently, effectively, and completely. I do not cow to private special interests, and my focus is on the safety, comfort, and happiness of our residents. I am also concerned with the growing homeless population in our city. I feel we can work as a community to solve this issue, WITHOUT INCREASING TAXES. It will not be easy, but if we work together, we can reduce crime, homelessness, and increase the quality of our already great city!
Issues:
Preserving the Second Amendment is critical to maintaining public safety for Kennewick residents. Due to many policies coming out of this legislative session in Olympia, our residents need to be able to defend their homes, businesses, families and each other from potentially violent criminals that seek to do harm to Kennewick citizens. I intend to accomplish this by continuing to pursue an ordinance that preserves the Second Amendment for all law- abiding adult citizens within our city. The city of Kennewick has already seen a rise in crime since the beginning of 2019, that combined with the restrictions on firearm purchases under 1639, including waiting periods and safe storage laws, places our good citizens and their families in jeopardy. Article 1 section 24 of our state’s constitution clearly states the right of the individual citizen to keep and bear arms in defense of self and the state shall not be impaired. The new waiting periods, storage law, and the fact that an entire age group of law- abiding adults now cannot purchase firearms is an impairment. Kennewick city government has an obligation to public safety, and to preserve and uphold our constitution. I intend to do exactly that.
Transparency is crucial to maintaining the liberty our
forefathers fought and died to obtain. Elected officials work for
you, the people. This is true in all branches and forms of
government, including local government. As your council woman, I
would strive to hold both myself, and my colleagues at both
the local and state levels transparent and accountable
to our bosses, YOU THE PEOPLE. There are many things that can accomplish this goal. Public workshops presented by the people in opposition or support for things the council has taken under consideration, allowing public comments and questions at the workshops, and increased accessibility to public council meetings via live streaming are just a few ways to increase transparency.
Bringing industrial businesses to Kennewick will increase jobs, and revenue for our city. We could provide local funds for schools, fire departments, and law enforcement with the revenue from industrial businesses. This will also expand the job market to industrial workers. I will pursue zoning ordinances to accomplish this. Those of our residents who work in the industrial field, must endure long commutes, and additional expense in fuel cost to commute to beyond Pasco, Richland, and even Oregon for work every day. I believe that time and money is better spent with their families. Bringing industrial business to Kennewick will increase jobs, revenue for the city, and boost our local economy. It will also allow for those who are currently struggling, or on social assistance programs, to find entry level work. This will reduce the burden on those programs, and will supplement money that can go to schools, law enforcement, and fire departments!
