Steve Tarrant hasn't added a story.
Just 4 days after marshalling the world’s greatest endurance motor race at Le Mans, he was back at a track again, Peterborough Speedway track to be precise. And this time he wasn’t marshalling, he was testing himself. For 24 hours he rode against the wind and the rain to challenge the Guinness World Record for the individual who has ridden the farthest distance within a 24 hour period aboard a mobility scooter. And achieve it he did, beating the old record by 19 miles to raise the bar to 173.25 miles!
In May 2014, he wants to do it again! Only this time it’s not a case of riding around in circles, but to challenge the record for the quickest ride on a mobility scooter from John O’Groats to Lands’ End. The record currently stands at 24 days and 9 hours, but the challenge is to try to more than halve this to approximately 12 days.
The planned route takes into account ‘A’ and ‘B’ classified roads, as motorway use is naturally excluded! And will include running at night to avoid the worst of the road traffic in the larger conurbations of England.
A travelling convoy of a motorhome and support vehicles for the travelling mechanics will cover the distance as well, to ensure the safe running of the scooter and the safety of Steve at all times.
