Allison Kanyetzny hasn't added a story.
After trying for weeks to discover why their four-year-old daughter Berkley felt unwell, Duane and Kandace Damhof were directed to appointments at Minneapolis Children’s Hospital. On Tuesday, August 12, Berkley seemed simply an achy, unenergetic child. By Wednesday, August 13, they learned that Berkley was battling stage four high risk Neuroblastoma, a cancer that develops in infants and children, sometimes even before birth.By Saturday, August 16, Berkley was receiving chemo through a port in her chest. That’s a head-spinning week. Each day brings challenges to Duane, Kandace, Berkley, and her 18 month old sister, Remington. Duane and Kandace must monitor Berkley’s blood counts as her resistance to infection and colds and flu have been compromised through her chemotherapy treatments. She usually spikes a fever in-between chemotherapy and will send them early morning trips to St Cloud Er and then down to children's hospital for a week until her counts come back and she has no more fevers. Chemo has also diminished Berkley’s appetite, initiated hair loss, and necessitated in-home medical attention. They must be ready for the unexpected demands of each day. Currently Berkley is on her fifth and finally round of chemo and her scans show no more bone marrow cancer which is very exciting. There next big step is to take a journey out to New York City to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. There they will have surgery to remove Berkley solid tumor that is around her lower spine. They will then return and heal after that. Then mid January head over to the U of M for stem cell transplant. That process will be 3 month stay with one month inpatient and 2 months out patient. They will then return back to Childrens Hospital and start radiation on the cancer in her bones. After they are done with that treatment they will start antibody therapy and August of next year they hope to be done with all there treatments if all goes well. Help Allie's Wish raise funds for Berkley and her family to cover medical expenses & other various things. Let's spread love and hope to this family by Celebrating the Gift of Giving. THANK YOU!!
