Jennifer Cooper hasn't added a story.
My bunny Jonah has fractured his front paw and I have pretty much been left with the dilemma of either having his leg amputated or to have him put down. As heartbreaking as it is to think of him getting his little leg amputated, at least he would still hopefully lead a relatively happy life.
The vet said it's like the equivalent of us fracturing our arm from the elbow down. The vet did say something about putting plates in and trying to reconstruct it, but that bunnies have tiny little bones and that it would be a stressful operation, and cost thousands of pounds...and maybe not even potentially work. The vet said that amputation would be kinder than trying to put plates in it to try and reconstruct it as that would mean multiple operations, which for a wee guy would maybe be just too much.
I absolutely adore my wee bunny and it is absolutely breaking my heart knowing he is hurting. :'(
Jonah is best buds with my Beagle~toes Alfie and the two of them together have shown that Beagles and bunnies can get on. I even wrote a wee blog about them before.
For a house bunny, Jonah has always been incredibly active, and he's a little character. He's a tough wee thing too and I think that even losing a leg, he will still be his little active self. I just need the help to make sure that he gets the best treatment possible.
Any help towards this, be it a donation, or just sharing the campaign around, it will help me so much, and I will be eternally greatful. Thank you so much for your help. Jonah and Jennifer xoxox
Edited 26th January - So Jonah had his leg amputated on Friday and we got him back home yesterday. He's been looking like he's feeling a bit sorry for himself, but no wonder, I would be too. He wasn't really coming out of his box at first but then after hand feeding him, and giving him eskimo kissies, he soon ventured out. It was heartbreaking seeing him, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't burst into tears the moment I saw him.
He's doing really well though, and he's not been put off his food one little bit. Classic Jonah. :) I have to take him back to the vets tomorrow afternoon, so fingers crossed all is looking well and he'll be on the road to recovery in no time. Now I need to get him a little pirate costume so he can be Jonah the pirate bunny. :) Thank you to everyone who has donated and shared this so far, it means the world to me. You all rock!! xox
