Lauren Taylor hasn't added a story.
Dionte was 18 and had just finished high school when he joined the festivities in Boystown last June. During the revelry, around a dozen people danced upon an unattended CPD vehicle, and at some point, the windshield of the patrol car was broken.
Though he did not break the windshield, Dionte was the only person arrested and the only person charged in relation to this incident. And he was arrested only after several parade-goers pointed him out to police.
In order to avoid a potential felony conviction, Dionte agreed to participate in a diversionary program. He is now saddled with $500 in fees, and faces an additional $4000 as part of a lawsuit filed by the city. The ongoing legal proceedings continue to disrupt his life and aspirations. The inital fees alone are a significant burden and source of stress as Dionte struggles to work, study and pay for school.
Donate what you can to support Dionte and stand against the targeting of LGBTQ people of color by Chicago police.
A little bit goes a long way! The sooner it’s paid off the sooner Dionte can move on!
