Toby Neumann hasn't added a story.
Hi everyone,
As you may know, but was suggested I add this, my name is Toby...I am an RMT and am the owner of a multi-disciplinary clinic, Sinclair Wellness Centre located in dowtown Vancouver. I am also a 41 years old female. Aprons for Gloves originated for the restaurant indusrty to participate in and have now expanded it to allow all who may be interested. Now, we all know that majority of this industry are for, and also employ, the young ;-) . Boxing is a very challenging sport, both mentally and physically so being 41 years old and diving into this realm for the young, I am interested to see how this all fairs for me! I have never done anything like this before, at any age, and am very excited to be a part of a welcoming community that is trying to build and support a needing cause. My boyfriend Tobias, who is an amazing chef at Mamie Taylor's (who are so nice to allow me to hop on their coat tails) was a part of this last year and I was very impressed with how professional and serious they were about this event and the entire process it. He loved being a part of it and I wanted to join him in this journey.
Now to explain on the who: East Side Boxing is where we train and who started this charity. Since September they have partnered with several different community organizations and agencies – together they have introduced 67 at risk youth and children in the Downtown East Side to the sport of boxing. These partnerships have allowed them to create a supportive environment at ESB where children and youth have access to nutritious food, medical assessments and oneonone support from partnering youth workers from Network of Inner City Community Service Society (NICCSS) and Britannia’s Youth Engagement Project. (If you need more info, please don't hesitate to contact me).
So I am now going to ask your help in raising money for this amazing, growing cause. It is not a guarantee that I will be in the ring at the end of it!! So don't hold your breath and hope that's what you're paying for! Haha...It will be webcasted so even if you are not here in person and I actually make it, you can watch the final event! But at the end of this all, I will need to raise $2000 by July 22nd. So please help raising this $ to help me make this worth my while!!!
Thanks for your time in reading this blurb and hope you can help be a part of my aches and pains journey!
Founded in 2012, Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association is a non-profit organization focused on providing community outreach through the sport of boxing. Based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, the organization was developed by a small group of professionals and entrepreneurs who seized an opportunity to re-establish a historic boxing program for at-risk women and youth. The program offers free mentorship and training to individuals who may otherwise not have the resources or support to participate in such activities. The sport of boxing teaches discipline, respect, hard work and self-control. Training results in positive self-esteem, good health and camaraderie for its practitioners.
Restaurant Rumble 2016
Every year bartenders, chefs, dishwaters, servers, baristas and all sorts of individuals from the Gastown community get together to train at the Eastside Boxing Club to fight in Restaurant Rumble.
In order to attend training, each fighter is required to raise $2000 for charity before they can compete at the Rumble.
