Dominican Starfish Foundation hasn't added a story.
Some stories are hard to tell.
Frantzy is a young Haitian man living in the Dominican Republic. He is actively serving in the community and is a volunteer counselor in his church bishopric in Puerto Plata.
In April, he went to Haiti to visit his family. He was kidnapped for 17 days to pay ransom for his family. The gang killed 7 of his family, 4 in front of his eyes. The only family member not killed was his sister who was at university the day of the slaughter. (Haiti is one of the most dangerous and evil places on the planet right now.)
The gang robbed everything he owned and for 17 days he was beaten, had guns held to his head, and witnessed murders. At the end of the time he stood and bore testimony to the group. He says he doesn't know how he had the strength to do it. He told them that all of them we children of God. He said that he knew he wasn't going to die at their hands but all of them would if they didn't turn from their ways.
At this point, one of the kidnappers lunged to kill him and another one stopped him. He said: "Let him go. He is no use to us. We have already killed all his family and he has no money." Miraculously they let him go. The next day the police stormed the place and all of the perpetrators were killed.
Frantzy (pronounced Frances) then found he sister and they escaped. They walked 6 hours to the Haitian/Dominican border and somehow got through and found their way back to Puerto Plata.
They haven't been able to pay rent because of the disaster. They have no food. His only possession, his computer which he does his job for a call center was confiscated by the landlord.
Donors found him another place to live and paid the first and last month's rent.
He and his sister were sleeping on the cement floor. They have no stove, no fridge, no food, and basically the clothes on their backs and some shoes that were donated.
Heidi Smith who was with the Dominican Starfish Group donated a bed for them. A member of their church congregation brings them food every day.
It was indeed a humbling visit for our whole group to hear Frantzy's message of hope to us.
When we learned of their situation. we made a decision to build them a little home on the land Dominican Starfish Foundation owns in Loma de la Bestia. What joy and hope they have in this news.
We need your help, please. Of course, as always, tax receipts will be issued!
