ArcTangent Dance hasn't added a story.
“Symphony Chromatica” is a multidisciplinary project about the history and science of colors.
The hues we plan for this project are red, pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, and translucence.
The overall vision of the project is to combine dance, music, poetry, costuming, and 360-degree camera technology to
transport audience members to a new world and deepen their relationship to colors in everyday life by examining their
own emotions and preconceived notions.
There are two ways we will present this piece:
1. A live dance performance in a theater.
2. A virtual reality experience filmed in 360° in the Gregangelo Museum in San Francisco.
We are seeking financial support to cover the overhead costs of research, development, and distribution for this project.
RESEARCH involves...
- Studying and understanding each color hue.
- Studio time to create movement motifs that reflects the color theme.
- Testing different camera angles to see how the dance translates in 360 degrees.
DEVELOPMENT involves...
- Rehearsals with the dancers for both the live and 360-degree version of the piece.
- Collaborating with composers, costume designers to make the vision come to life.
- Filming the dance with lights, music, costumes, and dancers at the Gregangelo Museum.
- Editing the film.
- Taking photos for marketing.
DISTRIBUTION involves...
- Submitting the film to festivals for exposure.
- Uploading the film for public viewership.
- Presenting the dance on stage for live audiences in a theater.
As a former tour guide of the Gregangelo Museum and a choreographer, Arielle, the artistic director of the project, has been inspired by the house for years and has wanted to create a dance concert in the space. She realized quickly that it was not economically feasible to host a dance concert in the space for several reasons:
- The space is too small to accommodate enough audience members to enjoy the performance,
- It is not wheelchair accessible, and
- The performers would have to perform the piece close to 15 times in one night, and several nights in a row to break even financially.
- The cost of the tickets would be prohibitive to members of our community.
The answer is to film the piece in 360 degrees to capture the experience of being inside the Gregangelo Museum, thus expanding access to more people through technology.
In addition, we aspire to bring this project to the stage for an evening-length concert, with the possibility of incorporating motion capture technology, live audiences, and traditional theater. Currently, we have shown excerpts in various festivals and performances to experiment with movement motifs and audience reactions.
With your financial contribution, artists of the Bay Area are provided with a paid creative opportunity through interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as showcasing the beauty of the Gregangelo Museum for a worldwide audience.
